Going back…way back

Gosh where do I even begin?!  So, let’s see…last I left you, I mean really left you, it was July and my parents had left and my sister was about to arrive.  Wow- a lot has happened since then.  First I should just say that as jam-packed as July and August were, it was wonderful.  I mean, truly there is basically nothing better than having your family visit when you are living so far away.  My parents make for pretty much the easiest house guests around…in fact, I think it is harder not having them here because they help out so much and are incredibly easy to keep happy.  And my sister and I, despite a significant age difference, ahem, are like best friends.  So, naturally having her around is also the bomb.

During my sister Katie’s stay with us, we had several mini outings, little day trips, and even a weekend in London.  Lots of things are deserving of their own post, which I think I will (try to) do.  For now though I will just post a few of my favorite pics and do a “highlights” post of her visit.  I’m calling this INSTALLMENT ONE, because truthfully there is no way I will cover all three weeks in one shot.

Night one was wine and cheese at home, which was lovely.  There is a nice little cheese shop in town where we were able to sample some cheeses to bring home and nibble on while we visited and planned out our next few weeks.

yummy spread

The bread is too wide for the oven...argh.

Stadt Idstein

Our relocation agent told me about Stadt Idstein when we moved here and I had never had the chance to visit until Katie was here.  It’s a little city (okay, town) about 30 minutes from us which I had been told was worth exploring.  So one rainy day (they were ALL rainy while Katie was here I swear) while Joe was busy working, Katie, Quinn, and myself set out to see what Stadt Idstein was all about.

"Altstadt" or old city...

more of the city center or "altstadt"

This picture just doesn't do justice...the orangey building was gorgeous.

Can you see all the amazing detail on this building?! It was incredible.

****Oh, you guys!  You’ll never believed what just happened!  Ugh.  I just lost 3/4 of this post!!!  Somehow in trying to save my draft, I clicked something else too soon and so I lost everything new I had uploaded and written.  I am soooo frustrated.  So I’m seriously posting this terrible/partial post for now even though it’s lame and will try to redo the rest tomorrow.  Boo.  Major boo.
